28 February 2008 - Sports Engineering Student Project Competition 2007
The competition was open to graduates from undergraduate degree programmes of years 2006 and 2007 at any institution of the higher education in the world, who have undertaken an individual project on a sports engineering topic.
1st Prize was won by Nils Betzler who studied at Department of Sports Science, Otto-von-Guericke Universitat Magdeburg, Germany, for his project entitled 'Biomechanical Characteristics of Golf Swings' and takes the prize of a cheque for £100 and together full membership of the ISEA for one year. Nils is now extending this work as a PhD student at Napier University, Edinburgh (UK), funded by R&R Rules Ltd., St Andrews.
2nd Prize was won by Ben Charles a student at the University of Bath, UK for his project entitled 'Analysis of Beach Casting Method and Rod' and takes the prize will be a certificate and full membership of the ISEA for one year.

General Information
Innovation is the crucial driving force in the world of sports technology. In popular sports new devices and gadgets are an important means to improve turnover or open up new markets. In many competitive sports advanced technologies provide the cutting edge for success. And, most important of all, for certain target groups like senior citizens or handicapped people innovative developments are a precondition to gain access to the world of sports and movement at all.
To foster these developments, ispo – the sports community, the Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM), and the German Interdisciplinary Assocation for Sports Technology (divers) have established the ispo-TUM Academic Challenge Award, which will be awarded once every year during the Winter ispo. Eligible for this award will be all contributions from the world of sports technology that in one way or another combine innovativeness and systematic reasoning with practical relevance. Contributions must fit into either of the four categories health, popular and leisure sports, competitive sports, and research. Contributions will be accepted from students, researchers or other members of academic institutions world-wide.
The winners of the ispo-TUM Academic Challenge Award will be selected by an internationally assembled jury. The four winners of each category will be notified in early January 2008, and will be offered to exhibit their innovations free of charge at the Winter ispo 2008 (January 27 - 30). The overall winner will furthermore receive a prize of EURO 2,500. The awards will be handed over in a ceremony, and there will be extended press coverage of the event and the winning projects.
6th International Conference on Sports Engineering
ISEA Student Paper Competiton
The 6th Conference in July -2006 was held at Munich's Olympic Site of 1972, Germany. Organised by Eckehard Fozzy Moritz and the SportsKreastiveWerkstatt team, the four day Conference was held in the Olympic Hall, where 181 papers were presented to an approximate 370 delegates.
The ISEA Student Award was presented to Laura Justham of Loughborough University, UK for her paper entitled "Quantification of the Cricket Bowling Delivery; a Study of Elite Players to Gauge Variability and Controllability".
