Following a period of sustained growth, we are recruiting for an additional Associate Editor for the journal Sports Engineering, published by Springer Nature under the auspices of the (ISEA) International Sports Engineering Association. The recruitment takes the form of a training programme, starting 1 January 2027, and the successful applicant will spend the first year as an Assistant Editor working alongside the current Associate Editors, before becoming an Associate Editor themselves.
The main duty will be to edit submissions related to their area of expertise, i.e., overseeing the peer-review process and making recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief. They will also engage in other journal editor activities, such as identifying emerging themes for invited papers and topical collections, establishing collaborative initiatives with conferences, events and meetings, and attending editorial board meetings. The Editor-in-Chief will set the Associate Editor’s specific duties based on the journal’s current needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Sports Engineer who is interested in academic publishing. The initial tenure will be four years: one year as an Assistant Editor and three years as an Associate Editor. The tenure may be extended following good performance. Remuneration will include a stipend of £500 per annum.
The ideal candidate will be an established/emerging researcher in Sports Engineering, or similar such as biomechanics, computer vision, electronics, materials science or physics. Experience as a reviewer, guest editor and/or conference organizer is desirable. They will be an active member of the Sports Engineering community, with a broad network of partners and an interest in scientific publishing. Engagement with other science and engineering communities, both in person and via social media, is required.
The editorial team is particularly interested in applications from candidates located outside the regions where current editorial team members are based, and with technical expertise that complements their own. Further details on the journal are on the website: www.springer.com/engineering/mechanics/journal/12283
