Sports Engineering Editor-in-Chief advert

The International Sports Engineering Association (ISEA) seeks a new Editor-in-Chief (EiC) for their journal Sports Engineering. The journal is published by Springer.

The success applicant will begin their transition period to becoming EiC from 1st June 2026. During this period, they will handle all new submissions, with support and guidance from the current EiC. They will officially start as EiC on 1st Jan. 2027.

The EiC tenure will be for a period of four years, with opportunity to renew based on performance. The current EiC receives an annual stipend and operational budget. They manage a team of Associate Editors and an Editorial Board. Applicants are expected to outline their plans for the journal in their application and upon successful appointment to manage annual budget with the ISEA Directors.

Main duties

  • Managing and making decisions on submissions via the online submission system in a timely manner.
  • Managing any Associate Editors.
  • Communicating and working with the publisher.
  • Setting and managing the strategic direction of the journal.
  • Providing updates to the ISEA Executive Committee, Editorial Board, and the wider sports engineering community.

Requirements

Essential

  • Leading reputation in sports engineering and related disciplines.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for advancing sports engineering research.
  • Awareness of current and future trends in sports engineering and related disciplines.
  • Extensive network of relevant academic and industry contacts.
  • Experience of reviewing for different journals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator (in English).
  • Highly organised and strategic.
  • High professional and ethical standards.
  • Current awareness of the academic publishing landscape.

Desirable

  • Editing experience.
  • Experience of managing a team.
  • Active member of ISEA.

The cover letter should outline the applicant’s suitability for the role, their plans for the journal and expected support package.
